Queanbeyan

Country living, city benefits

Queanbeyan is located on the ACT-NSW border only 10km from Canberra CBD and the Canberra International Airport, in a snug valley near the junction of the Molonglo and Queanbeyan rivers.

Queanbeyan’s proximity to Canberra, the Snowy Mountains, South Coast NSW and the historic towns of Bungendore and Braidwood means it is an ideal place to stop and a great place to be based to explore the Canberra Region.

Housing in Queanbeyan is competitive: in June 2016, the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area had a median house valuation of $563,825 and median house rental price of $450wk – slightly lower than properties in the neighbouring ACT.

Education
Queanbeyan also has a range of schooling options for families, including QBN Public Primary, QBN South Primary, QBN West & East Primary, Karabah High & QBN High School. In addition to schools within the ACT, there are also public schools located in the neaby villages of Bribbaree, Murringo, Koorawatha, Maimuru, Monteagle, Rye Park, Rugby and Wombat.

Medical
A major $51 million dollar upgrade in 2009 transformed Queanbeyan District Hospital into a modern acute care public hospital which shares in a cross-border relationship with the ACT. The Medical/Surgical ward has 22 beds.  It provides day surgery and inpatient surgery for general surgery, gynaecology, endoscopy, dental and some orthopaedic procedures.  There is a 24-hour ED, a Renal Unit, Pathology Department, CT scanner, and associated Community and Allied Health Services. The Maternity Unit has been awarded its fifth consecutive Baby Friendly Health Initiative accreditation certificate, equalled by only one other hospital in NSW.
