Jugiong

On the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, just off the Hume Highway, Jugiong is the gateway to the Hilltops Region.

90 minutes from Canberra and 20 minutes from Gundagai, Jugiong is an oasis from the typical fare served up on the black top of the Hume Highway.

The scenery is stunning with the mighty Murrumbidgee cutting through a green, tree-lined valley.

Local businesses that celebrate the best of the region attract tourists and travellers from far and wide, while also staying relevant to locals as the places to bring family and friends, or just spend a day or night out, so close to home.

The Long Track Pantry, in the beautifully restored Jugiong General Store, is a thriving produce store and café loved by locals and travellers alike. Serving home-style breakfast and lunch from Wednesday to Monday, the warm and welcoming eatery is the embodiment of Hilltops dining.

The newly renovated Sir George provides a look into the village’s storied past but combines a modern, elegant design, and high end dining experience that is complemented by friendly, professional service.

The Jugiong Wine Cellar showcases the finest wines from the surrounding wine regions of Hilltops, Tumbarumba, Canberra and Gundagai. Initially designed to present wine produced from the 190 hectares of vines planted nearby, the cellar door quickly expanded to offer travellers a taste of the best wines produced throughout southern New South Wales.

The newly opened 4 Doors Up complex of 3 local businesses; The Curator’s Collective (designer homewares and clothing), The Yard (fresh flowers and artworks), and … (leather products and timberwork); adds a unique and luxurious shopping experience to visitors and is a must-see in this tiny town.

Jugiong also boasts a Mobil petrol station and post office, a truck stop diner, and an 18 room Motel with a friendly bar and quality pub-style restaurant. Other accommodation can be sought at the refurbished Old Hall.

For locals, the village boasts a thriving primary school, an outdoor pool complex, functional park with bbq set-up and a recreation ground that includes a sports oval, camp draft arena, town hall, tennis courts and fields for horse sports such as polocrosse.

The village is home to Tegra Quarries, Bald Hill Quarry and Goldenfields pumping station.

Jugiong was always known for being a stop on the highway; it is now the destination.
