In 2013, Steven Mommsen and Jason Bobruk combined their two successful businesses, Real Steel Restorations and Devilish Racing, and established Real Steel Group in Queanbeyan.

Real Steel Group manages all aspects of vehicle restorations, from metal shaping to coachbuilding, collision repairs on classic cars, automotive paint, custom paint, upholstery, mechanical and electrical. Finding it difficult to source quality custom parts, Jason and Steven also set up a full machine shop which manufactures custom parts for the business, and other businesses across the region.

Jason says their shop is just a few kilometres from where his grandparents first moved to Queanbeyan in 1950, and Steven’s family has run successful businesses in Queanbeyan for two generations. “We came here purely because it’s our history, it’s our culture, and we like the surroundings and support you get from other businesses.”

Steven says they enjoy the benefits of living in the area, where they receive a lot of support from the local industry in manufacturing and automotive, and can tap into an effective network of like-minded business people who are keen to help each other.

Jason calls Queanbeyan a cool old country town, and says that local businesses have a “country mentality” of doing right by their customers and other businesses in the area. “Love the decision to come to Queanbeyan,” says Steven. “We’ve always been here, we’re very supportive of the region and the region’s been exceptionally kind to us.”
